Ruth is an associate with the Governance Consultancy Team at Babcock 4S. She has had a lifetime career within the education sector, delivering services to schools and major education projects on behalf of business and government; including over 10 years’ experience within a government agency and central government.
From starting as a parent governor in the late 1980s, Ruth has seen and been involved first hand in the rollercoaster of change in education both through her professional life and her work as a governor. Since then, she has been a governor in a variety of schools in both Surrey and Hampshire. She is currently Chair of the Governing Body at West Byfleet Junior School, Vice-Chair of the Governing Body/the Academy Trust at Collingwood College, an 11-18 converter academy in Camberley, Surrey, with almost 1,900 pupils. In October 2015 she became a founder member of the KITE primary Multi-Academy Trust consisting of five schools.
She has been a Local Authority Additionally Appointed Governor in a number of schools. As a member of the Surrey Schools Forum, she was part of the task force looking at ‘deprivation funding’ for 16/17.
Ruth’s experience of school governance is put to good use and she is currently heavily involved in reviewing, supporting and helping improve the effectiveness of governing bodies in a number of schools. Ruth has significant experience in leading and contributing to training sessions, conferences and courses for school leaders, business managers, governors and clerks to governors not only in Surrey but also across several London boroughs. Her most recent projects include supporting schools in a whole-school approach to developing their vision and values. She regularly works with SGOSS supporting recruitment of new governors from business and has appeared on national television to promote the importance of people with business skills volunteering to become governors.
A qualified professional marketeer, Ruth holds the NVQ Level 5/Diploma in School Business Management, and works with school leaders reviewing business administration functions driving an efficient and effective back office culture.
Ruth has conducted a number of Reviews of Governance across both primary and secondary phase schools and academies; including special schools and short stay schools. Holder of a Certificate of Coaching, she regularly provides one-to-one coaching for school leaders and governors.
